On 12th March 1915, the 4th Royal Fusiliers battalion of 9 Brigade, 3rd Division went into trenches to the south-east of Ypres where they remained until relieved on 15th March. The battalion diary entry for 13th March states that it was “a quiet day”. But it was not quiet enough for the five men who were killed, one of whom was Sidney Gordon.
